Winter Lost

Winter Lost, by Patricia Briggs

Mercy’s half+-brother arrives at her doorstep wearing a curse he can’t slip out of. When the usual experts can’t save him, Mercy and Adam set out to see who he pissed off and settle the problem to everyone’s satisfaction.

Winter Lost felt choppier than Briggs’s books usually do. We’re taken away from Mercy’s perspective several times to address characters and events not related to the main plot of the book. While some of these wrapped up tidily, other left loose ends to be resolved in later books. All of the non-Mercy storylines serve to reinforce the primary storyline in which Mercy and Adam have leveled up, stepping onto a whole new playing field of power. These come together to foreshadow that things are going to shake up in the near future, and while I have some theories about the nature of these changes I’ll limit myself to saying that I look forward to seeing things play out.
